Blue 2.0: Completed!!!

I think I finally finished everything and I am really glad that I tried everything!! Thanks so much to the Blue 2.0 planners and I hope to keep learning about these technologies and more!! : )

Blue 2.0: MySpace

I finally got back to MySpace. I am still not a fan though I expect it would grow on me if I spent more time with it. I nailed down my security to friends or at least I think I did, but I friended Beth, Sarah and Stacey. I joined two UK groups and explored the various options. I uploaded a photo of a Colorado wildflower instead of myself and I can no longer what else I did. However.... I am still a big fb fan. For the social networking exercise I have tried out lots more new fb things and beefed up my LinkedIn presence a bit but I prefer not to spend more time on MySpace....

Blue 2.0: Podcasting

OMG! This was the most intensive assignment and I am still not sure I did it correctly. I believe I did the following:
* Listened to the podcasting tutorials
* Downloaded Audacity
* Downloaded Lame
* Downloaded SmartFTP
* Planned, recorded and edited my podcast about the AIC website
* Saved the program
* Exported the program to MP3 file
* Listened to it via Windows Media Player
* Listened to some tutorials again to understand the encoding part - still did not understand how to publish my podcast

* Then set up Internet Archive acct, accessed Our Media, downloaded SpinExpress & QuickTime
* Finally logged on to Internet Archive and published the AIC Podcast

Blue 2.0: YouTube

I searched the YouTube site for "libraries" as assigned. I saw lots of movies about Second Life and some tours of physical libraries, but I was a bit disappointed not to find more LI videos. My all-time favorite library video on YouTube is "March of the Librarians". I think we should look at YouTube as a way for our student workers to help us market our library services to undergrads....

Blue 2.0: Facebook & LinkedIn

Soooo finally we get to my favorite 2.0 tool!!! I love Facebook and have had a profile for nearly a year. You can see it at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=594780141

In honor of this exercise I have been playing with new apps this week.

I also have a LinkedIn account which I had done nothing with except receive two network invitations. This week I played with for a while as well as sending more than a dozen invites which I believe have all been accepted now. I do not see this tool as valuable for me - it is more of a corporate world tool. You can see my profile at http://www.linkedin.com/in/kytrillium

I will set up MySpace acct later this week.....

Flickr Fotos

I definitely like Flickr for personal photos and believe I will use it for the AIC, Prof orgs, etc.

My first uploads can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/gp/25076734@N04/YV9a3A

The campus libraries could use this tool for our many campus events and posting on other 2.0 tools.

Blue 2.0: del.icio.us

I definitely like del.icio.us and I expect I will be using this quite a bit both the public and private sides. I have already synched it to my Fb account!!

my account is at http://del.icio.us/KyAgLib

Blue 2.0: The wiki finally works

I think that with more time a wiki might be an useful tool. However, it took me much longer than it should have. Somehow I created several pages before I could finally save one correctly. I gave up for several weeks and just came back this evening.

Blue 2.0: Bloglines

So, for Week 3 I have set up a Bloglines account which I meant to do on my own a long long time ago. So this was easy and very useful. I expect to be using this news feed quite a bit. Right now the trick will be determing which feeds I need to add, delete and try out.

I am currently subscribed to the following:
* Blue 2.0 - of course, however I could never find anything that said 'Copy Link Location' so it is quite possible that I subscribed to that one incorrectly. Should it say Blue 2.0 - Weeks 3 and 4 in the feed list?
* BBC - the front page and the technology section
* Daily Show Videos
* Salon
* Dilbert
* PC Mag
* The Shifted Librarian
* Dictionary.com Word of the Day
* Librarian's Internet Index: new this week
* Wired: Top Stories

I would like to subscribe to Stacey's blog when I find it!

This exercise was really fun!!!

Blue 2.0 : IM via AIM

Well.... setting up an AIM account was not as intuitive as setting up a blog on Blogger. I was quite surprised that this application launched so many useless screens full of products that I am not interested in. Personally, I like texting on Facebook much better!!

My AIM screen name is KyAgLib -- yes, I am 'aiming' for consistency. Do I get extra points for that?

I am looking forward the future weeks of Blue 2.0!!

Blue 2.0: AIM Express

Well, I was rather surprised to find that setting up my AIM account was not quite as intuitive as I expected since the application launched so many useless screens full of products I do not need. Clearer instructions would be useful next time.

So my AIM screen name is KyAgLib which is no surprise of course. I 'aiming' for consistency so it will easier to remember.

Once this is set up it might be useful, but right I find that Facebook meets my needs for social networking and chatting since I link it to my cell phone and to my email. It was much more intuitive and I learned how to use it without someone giving me instructions.

I am looking forward to Blue 2.0 future weeks....
